Advent Activities

We have been having a lot of fun this holiday season by using an advent calendar with a fun Christmas activity each day. Some of the activities have been going places, like a Walk through Bethlehem, some have been art projects like making Christmas ornaments, and some have been special treats, like Hot Chocolate after dinner. It has been great to have a plan of what we are doing this holiday season and having everything spaced out so we are not trying to do everything in one day. Here are a few pictures of some of our activities:

Showing off our calendar

I found the idea online and there is an activity written under the fold of each "envelope"

On the first day of December we put up our Christmas tree as our activity. On another day Emma and Ian each got a new ornament to put on the tree. We have also made a few new ornaments for another activity and will make more once school is out next week.

We also have gotten new Christmas pajamas on the 3rd of December. Ian loves his choo choo pjs.

I put some of the more time consuming projects on the weekends, like decorating a gingerbread house. Emma was very serious about this....

and was getting very upset with Ian for doing this...

he did get some on the house, though

Another favorite was hot chocolate night

Big smiles all around.

This weekend, Emma and I went to see the Nutcracker Ballet with another friend. Emma loved the ballet and did a great job sitting through the performance.

And today, we marked another big event of the calendar...

We went to see Santa and got two smiling faces. Emma asked for a new dolly and Ian wanted a rocket ship. Santa also gave me a tip on where to see a great model railroad set up based on Ian's train pants.

As a reward, we enjoyed cookies and lemonade.

Stay tuned for more of our December adventures.
